For anyone interested, I ended up biting the bullet... Bought a managed
switch and set up two vlans such that the two routers are on separate lans.

Truly, I'd like to have sorted this "properly", but wi-fi's become
essential for us so needs must.

Cheers for everyone's suggestions.
